What to decide before you order
Shape follows the container
Round suits lids, jar tops and seals; rectangles and squares wrap front panels; ovals suit bottles with a gentle curve. Measure the flat area of your container, not the whole circumference.
Roll direction matters for applicators
If you will use a label applicator, the way the roll unwinds (which edge of the artwork leaves the roll first) has to match the machine. Tell us at the quote stage and we will set it up as ordered.
One design, one setup
Each different design is its own item with its own one-time setup, so three flavours means three designs. Quantity is then per design, which is why many shops order their best sellers in larger runs.
Leave a margin for the cut
Keep text and logos about 1/8 inch (3 mm) inside the edge, and extend background colour past the cut line. The proof shows the cut line so you can check it.
Our recommendation
Our material recommendation
For most products, start with our standard white stock and a matte finish: it is a waterproof BOPP film with a permanent adhesive that copes with fridges, shower shelves and shipping boxes. Choose gloss finish for punchy colour, clear stock if you want a no-label look on glass or plastic, freezer-grade white for products stored frozen, and gold or silver foil for premium accents.
Typical sizes
Sizes people usually order
These are starting points, not limits: the instant quote accepts your exact size. Measure the flat area of your container first.
| Use | Typical size | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Small lid or seal | 1 in round | Closure seals, sample jars |
| Standard jar lid | 2 in round | Candles, balms, preserves |
| Front panel | 2 × 3 in rectangle | Bottles, tins, pouches |
| Wide wrap | 4 × 2 in rectangle | Larger jars, cans, boxes |

Questions about custom roll labels
What is the difference between roll labels and label sheets?
Roll labels come wound on a core, ready for hand application at volume or for a label applicator. Sheet labels come on flat sheets that are easy to peel by hand for small batches. If you are unsure, tell us how many you apply per day and we will point you to the right format.
Can I get several designs in one order?
Yes. Each design is added as its own item, so you can order, for example, three flavours in three quantities in the same checkout. Each design has its own proof.
Do you offer custom shapes on a roll?
Round, square, rectangle and oval are in the instant quote. For anything else, use die-cut labels or request a custom quote.
How do I know the size is right?
Measure the flat part of your container and subtract a little margin. If you are in doubt, print the proof at 100 percent on paper, cut it out and hold it against the container before you approve.

Waterproof labels
Paper labels wrinkle, bleed and lift when they get wet.
Clear labels
Clear labels print your artwork on a transparent film so the glass, plastic or metal underneath shows through.
Freezer labels
Ordinary adhesives lose their grip when the temperature drops, so labels curl and fall off.
