7 × 6 in labels
Hold up a half-letter sheet and you have a feel for 7 × 6 in: a little smaller than it, 178 × 152 mm, 42 sq in. Where it fits best: a 2 lb stand-up pouch front (6.75 × 9.5 in), plus an 8 × 8 in cake box top (8 × 8 in). Expect about 41 lines of roughly 116 characters at 8 pt, and a full-size UPC-A barcode if you need one. Getting the layout right
Set your canvas to 2138 × 1838 px, put a 6.875 × 5.875 in guide inside it, and nothing smaller than 8 pt. Big labels go on easier from one edge: plan the design so a slight shift of 0.07 in is not noticeable.
Leave room: 7.25 × 6.25 in of flat surface is ideal. If you wrap it, containers near 2.31 in across (with the 7 in side going around) leave a small seam gap.
Compared with 8.25 × 5 in, 7 × 6 in has 2% more room, and the next step, 8 × 5.5 in, adds 5%. Stepping up to 8 × 5.5 in adds about $0.04 per 1,000 labels.
